Funky Marching Band JAZZFESTIVAL FREIBURG 2026

It's almost a tradition when the Funky Marching Band parades through the streets of the city center with a lot of funky groove at the opening of the Freiburg Jazz Festival and transforms the city's squares into small stages - for dancing, snapping along and enjoying.

With his compositions and arrangements, bandleader Jörgen Welander creates an unmistakable sound that moves stylistically between New Orleans jazz and funk. Guitar, percussion and vocals bring a breath of fresh air to the classic brass line-up with trumpet, saxophone, trombone, sousaphone, snare and bass drums.

The Funky Marching Band stands for pure energy and fun - music that inspires young and old and not only gets into your legs, but straight to your heart.

The jazz festival is a cooperation between E-WERK Freiburg and jazzhaus Freiburg. The Freiburg Jazz Festival is funded by the city of Freiburg and the state of Baden-Württemberg and sponsored by Sparkasse Freiburg - Nördlicher Breisgau and the Ganter brewery.
