Experience your city in the dark
Close your eyes and walk through the city. How do people with visual impairments perceive Stuttgart and what challenges do they have to overcome? At the "Blind Date with Stuttgart" in the StadtPalais - Museum for Stuttgart, visitors can gain experience of this. From 16.02. to 05.05.2024, blind and visually impaired experts will guide small groups through a completely dark special exhibition on the state capital.
Discover Stuttgart with all your senses - just not with your eyes. People with a visual impairment perceive their surroundings differently. They orient themselves by sounds, smells and trust their sense of touch. The special exhibition "Blind Date with Stuttgart" aims to convey how they sense their city.
The exhibition can only be experienced as part of a guided tour. Blind and visually impaired guides accompany small groups behind a light lock through a completely dark exhibition. They take visitors to well-known places in Stuttgart, which can be recognized in Salon Sophie through intensive listening, smelling, touching and tasting. Visitors not only experience a particularly sensory perspective of their city, but also learn about the challenges that everyday life in Stuttgart poses for people with visual impairments.
The exhibition was developed and curated entirely with visually impaired people. As experts, they invite you to slip into their role and engage with places and stories in a completely different way.
The exhibition was created in collaboration with Aus:Sicht e.V., BSV Württemberg e.V., Stiftung Nikolauspflege and the Dialog-Museum Frankfurt.
