Jazz Open 2026: Philine Sonny
In the organizer's words:
Philine Sonny is a German-born alt/indie singer, songwriter and producer whose music transforms raw emotion into expansive, infectious pop. Following her self-produced EPs Lose Yourself (2022) and Invader (2024), her debut album Virgin Lake is out now (release date: April 3, 2026 via Nettwerk). Partly inspired by Benedict Wells' novel Hard Land, the album is a cathartic coming-of-age journey through alienation, grief and renewal. In songs like the urgent opener "The Band", the self-aware single "Gatekeeper" and the reflective closer "Made For You", Philine charts a path from anger and pain to compassion and self-awareness. By expanding her intimate songwriting to include contributions from close friends on drums, guitars and strings, Virgin Lake combines soaring vocals, driving rhythms and deeply personal lyrics. The result is an impressive debut that captures the turbulence of growing up while offering a glimpse of healing and hope.
