What is it about?
The BMW Photo Award Leipzig is presented every two years to artists who have a biographical or artistic connection to Leipzig or the region. The prerequisite is work in the medium of photography or related visual media. This year's winners are Viktoria Binschtok (*1972), Harald Kirschner (*1944) and Jay Ritchie (*1992). While Binschtok's works of conceptual photography simultaneously stimulate and irritate visual perception, Ritchie's strict, classically composed images succeed in taking people seriously in their depth while exploring existential questions of identity. Kirschner, on the other hand, has documented the city of Leipzig and its inhabitants photographically like no other over the last 45 years. All of the artists studied at the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig (HGB).
The BMW Photo Award Leipzig is presented every two years to artists who have a biographical or artistic connection to Leipzig or the surrounding region. A prerequisite is that the work be in the medium of photography or in a related visual medium. This year's winners are Viktoria Binschtok (*1972), Harald Kirschner (*1944), and Jay Ritchie (*1992). While Binschtok's works of conceptual photography simultaneously stimulate and disrupt our visual perception, Ritchie succeeds - with his strict, classically composed images - in taking people seriously in their depth and exploring existential questions of identity. In turn, Kirschner has, like no other, used photography to document the city of Leipzig and its inhabitants over the past 45 years. All of the artists completed a master's degree at the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig (HGB).
