Bodo Wartke – Antigone
In the organizer's words:
Antigone—the new play starring Bodo Wartke! Following *Oedipus the King*, the piano cabaret artist demonstrates his acting talent for the second time in a tragedy by Sophocles.
Wartke and his longtime stage partner Melanie Haupt play all the roles in the play, switching between them at a rapid pace with few props against a minimalist set. Like its predecessor, *Antigone* is written entirely in rhyme, the language is modern, and there are once again numerous pop culture references to discover. With all due respect, yet with a touch of humor, the creators of the play approach their Antigone without detracting from the tragedy of the original work.
Conceived by dramaturg Carmen Kalisch, director Sven Schütze, and Bodo Wartke, the play highlights the relevance of this ancient story, in which the main character defies a newly enacted state law of her own accord.
The focus is on timeless questions regarding the responsibility of the state on the one hand and the role of the individual on the other.
