Founded in 1985 by four disillusioned 13-year-olds, BOLD began their career under the name Crippled Youth. The band first caught the attention of the burgeoning hardcore scene in the mid-1980s with the release of their EP “Join The Fight” (nine songs). Together with their friends in the band Youth of Today, they played a pivotal role in shaping the look, message, and sound of what would later become known as “Youth Crew” hardcore. Shortly after the release of “Join The Fight,” the band changed its name and released the groundbreaking NYHC album “Speak Out” on Revelation Records. 

Nonstop live performances expanded the band’s reach and cemented their status as one of the most influential groups of their time. In 1989, BOLD brought guitarist Tom Capone on board for the release of what was to be their farewell album at the time: the self-titled 7-inch record, which was later reissued under the title “Looking Back.” This recording marked a significant musical and lyrical evolution; it anticipated technical elements that would shape 1990s hardcore while also foreshadowing many characteristics that would soon define post-hardcore.
