Bremen pflastert ab: Entsiegelungs-Workshop

Sealed surfaces—that is, paved or asphalted areas—heat up significantly in hot weather. Water cannot seep into the ground, which puts a strain on the sewer system during heavy rain and can lead to flooding and flooded basements.

What can be done? Remove the seal and add greenery!

In the de-sealing workshop offered by Bremer Umwelt Beratung, you’ll learn:

• how to unseal a surface
• how to ecologically prepare the soil and plant vegetation
• what preparation and follow-up work is required
• what benefits greening brings to the climate, biodiversity, and quality of life

Instructor:

Natural gardener Hartmut Clemen has led the ecological educational garden (FlorAtrium) of the State Association of Garden Enthusiasts for over 22 years. In our workshop, he will share his expertise.

When? June 30, 2026, 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

The workshop is offered as part of the “Bremen pflastert ab!” initiative. The competition rewards Bremen residents who remove paving stones by October 31, thereby creating cooler spaces and habitats. Those who remove the most stones can look forward to awards such as the “Golden Pickaxe” or the “Green Roland” from the Senator for Environment, Climate, and Science.
