Former Bremen detective Thomas Nettelbeck is trying to gain a foothold as a private investigator. His first case takes him to the island of Langeoog, where the legendary singer Lale Andersen has recently started receiving anonymous threatening letters. At first, there seems to be no evidence that Lale is actually in danger. But then Lale's dog disappears - and Nettelbeck realizes that there is much more at stake here. He soon suspects that the key to the solution lies in the singer's past - and in her famous song "Lili Marleen". Because there is a shadow over the song that stretches from the Nazi era to the present day.

Ronald Fricke, born and raised in Bremen, studied German and philosophy in Berlin, returned to Bremen after twenty years and now lives in the artists' village of Worpswede. In 2008 he received the Bremen Literature Scholarship, in 2023 he won first prize in the Bremen Literature Competition.
