Since her husband Mark (Colin Firth) died four years ago, Bridget Jones (Renée Zellweger) has been living as a single mother and looks after her 9-year-old son Billy and 4-year-old Mabel with great dedication. She receives active support from her loyal friends, who are like an adopted family to her, as well as from her former lover Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant), who always comes to the rescue. Encouraged by this strong community, Bridget ventures back into the world of work and tries to find fulfillment in her life again. But the balancing act between family, career and the challenges of her love life becomes increasingly difficult. Not only does she have to stand up to the prejudices of the perfect mothers at school, she also has to deal with advances from a much younger man and awkward encounters with her son's science teacher.
