Filme im Dialog #2 - ,,German New Wave"

With Films in Dialogue, GEH8 is launching a new film series in Dresden that focuses on the cinema as a space for discussion. On the evenings of the event, two films will be shown one after the other that are linked in terms of content, aesthetics or theme. There is a break between the screenings, which opens up space for exchange, encounters and initial discussions. The team from the GEH8 studio café OTTO will offer food and drinks so that this exchange does not have to take place on a growling stomach.

The special thing about Films in Dialogue is the open form of the announcement: The titles of the films are not revealed in advance, but only hinted at in associative paraphrases. This arouses the curiosity of the visitors (similar to sneak previews in the cinema) and allows free access to the films - without expectations, but with attention to the resonances that arise between the two works. The appropriately designed room and the food prepared for each evening enrich the exchange with each other

Each evening is curated and moderated by Heinz Schmöller and Christoph Ziener. They place the films in a larger context, outline an overarching theme and provide impulses for the subsequent viewing. In this way, the evenings are not just cinema screenings, but curated, sensory dialog spaces in which films enter into conversation with each other - and the audience is invited to continue this conversation.

Film 1
A man listens to the sounds of the city - and finds the code to its control. In a world of buzzing neon lights and assembly line rhythms, he searches for rebellion in the noise of the machines.

Movie 2
A court jester wanders through an empire in decay. Masks, rituals and grotesque games lead him through a world that is celebrating its downfall. In fairytale-like images that oscillate between theater, painting
and dream, a parable of power and insignificance unfolds - a dance of death of magical slowness, pale beauty and quiet melancholy.
