Brumadinho, Brazil 2019: A dam burst, 272 dead, German co-responsibility and still no justice. Six years later, relatives continue to fight for justice.
On January 25, 2019, the breach of a mine retention basin in Brumadinho, Brazil, claimed the lives of 272 people. This was despite the fact that the mining company Vale S.A. and TÜV Süd (Munich) had confirmed the safety of the dam. The relatives have been fighting for justice for six years now.
Relatives of the victims visit Munich to talk about the crime, its consequences and the ongoing fight for justice.
We are showing a film about the crime and its consequences. The director and team trace the voices of the survivors, relatives, activists and experts in intense images and powerful conversations. The film shows that it was not just an accident, but a preventable crime that was made possible by corporate negligence and the disregard of repeated warning signals.
With great narrative power, the film illuminates not only the immediate suffering and destruction, but also the lasting consequences for the relatives, survivors and nature. The screening invites viewers to engage with the interdependence of the economy, the environment and human rights and to listen to the voices of those affected.
Afterwards, there will be a discussion with relatives from Brumadinho, where there will be room for questions and exchange.
Free admission.
