Thirty-year-old writer Natsuko has lots of questions and is looking for answers. What ideals of beauty determine life? How can we talk about intimate matters? How can the desire to have a child be realized while at the same time rejecting physical sexual encounters?

Natsuko's older sister Makiko wants to have a breast augmentation. Meanwhile, Makiko's twelve-year-old daughter Midoriko is overwhelmed by the onset of puberty. Natsuko struggles with the question of what role remains - as an unmarried woman who is no longer a daughter and may never be a mother.

Breasts and Eggs is the second part of Christopher Rüping's family trilogy, in which he and his respective ensemble question the construct of the family in the 21st century in three independent works - without any claim to completeness. The first part of Jean-Luc Lagarce's family trilogy Einfach das Ende der Welt was created at Schauspielhaus Zürich in 2020 and has been playing at Deutsches Theater Berlin since January 2023. The trilogy concludes with Trauer ist das Ding mit Federn by Max Porter, which can be seen at Schauspielhaus Bochum from March 2024.
