Buchpräsentation & Artist Talk: Käthe Schönle
In the organizer's words:
The presentation of the monograph KÄTHE SCHÖNLE – Der wache Moment (Verlag für moderne Kunst Wien, 2026) and the accompanying artist talk with the artist Käthe Schönle and the curator, author, and journalist Aline Lara Rezende offer insights into the multifaceted work of the Vienna-based artist. Schönle is also featured in the current exhibition at the Austrian Cultural Forum Berlin , *Why “We Should All Be Feminists”*, which addresses issues of equality, gender justice, the dismantling of societal role models, and the advocacy for human rights.
At the heart of the publication are conversations between Käthe Schönle and Aline Lara Rezende that took place in the spring of 2025. Rather than presenting a chronological overview of her work, the monograph explores Schönle’s artistic thinking and working methods in a narrative form.
During the Artist Talk, Schönle and Rezende will discuss the book’s creation and key aspects of Schönle’s artistic practice. The conversation offers personal insights into the development of the publication and the artist’s career. The Artist Talk will be conducted primarily in English, with occasional contributions in German.
The 256-page, high-quality catalog, featuring numerous images of works and exhibitions, offers a comprehensive insight into the artist’s multifaceted body of work in painting, drawing, collage, and screen printing, and is supplemented by essays by Lisa Ortner-Kreil, Aline Lara Rezende, and Paula Watzl.
Käthe Schönle (*1976, Riedlingen, Germany) studied Fine Arts and Visual Communication at the Kassel Art Academy and has lived in Vienna since 2006. Her works have been exhibited internationally and have received numerous awards, including the City of Kassel Art Prize.
