Cornelia Funkeis the best-known German-language author of children’s and young adult books, whose works are read all over the world. After studying illustration, she turned to writing because she didn’t always like the stories she was asked to illustrate. Cornelia Funke lives in Volterra, Italy, where she is developing a project for young artists and conservationists. Using stories and images to spark curiosity about everything in this world that isn’t man-made—that is an important goal of her artistic work. In 2020, she received the German Youth Literature Prize for her entire literary oeuvre.
