Once a year, ordinary kiosks in Düsseldorf are transformed into small stages, dance floors and meeting places. This is the Düsseldorfer Büdchentag!

On this day, the everyday place "Büdchen" becomes a venue for culture, music, literature, comedy and performance. The special thing about it: It is a festival by the people for the people. Büdchen operators, DJ collectives, bands, artists and local initiatives apply with their own ideas and program proposals. The result is a lively, decentralized festival that actively and authentically involves the entire urban community, regardless of origin, age, income or disability.

More than 15,000 people now visit Büdchentag, which not only celebrates art and culture, but also active and tolerant coexistence - and thus strengthens democratic cohesion, in line with the motto: "Art and culture are created where life takes place.

Since 2020, the event has been organized by Düsseldorfer Büdchentag e.V. It was founded to revive the Rhenish Büdchen culture and strengthen neighbourhoods in the state capital. The association emphasizes the cultural and historical significance of the Büdchen as a low-threshold urban meeting place for an open urban society.

The lubricant of the Düsseldorfer Büdchentag is the local connection to the city of Düsseldorf and the vision that the ideas that drive our city forward are born on the street: Urban lifestyle in its purest form! Since 2016, a symbiosis has been created between the local players: No Büdchen without operators, no Büdchen without users. The success of the Büdchetag is based on close cooperation with Büdchen owners, artists, initiatives, associations, sponsors and supporters. The open programmatic framework guarantees authentic participation and diversity of content, prevents thematic restrictions and thus strives for a broad representation of urban society. The decentralized spatial planning reaches individual districts and neighbourhoods and their specific communities in a targeted manner, while at the same time promoting cultural exchange across neighbourhood boundaries and actively combating polarization and isolation.
