The Bülbül Club is a meeting place for dancing together and dances from West Asia and North Africa at tanzhaus nrw. After an introductory workshop on a dance style, we dance without borders - like Bülbüls! In Arabic, Hebrew, Kurdish, Turkish and Persian, Bülbül is a proverb for joy and for speaking fluently and vocally. In addition to dancing, the club also invites people to exchange ideas and celebrate together.

Dabke feat. Hasaposerviko & Insel-Syrtos

The next edition of the popular Bülbül Club is coming up! It is dedicated to the circle dances Dabke - Hasaposerviko - Insel-Syrtos. No previous knowledge is necessary, everyone is welcome to join in the evening.

Dabke is a popular dance from Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine and Syria in which people stomp along to the rhythm. Dabke is traditionally practiced as a circle and line dance. Hasaposerviko is one of the most popular Greek dances danced at festivals. Hasaposerviko brings rhythm and a sense of community. Island syrtos is a Greek circle dance that is practiced on many islands of the Aegean and Ionian Seas and celebrates unity, joy and tradition. Both dance styles have musical and dance influences from various Balkan peoples who traveled to the urban centers of Greece to trade.

The Greek circle dances will be led by Phaedra Pisimisi, a professional dancer and choreographer from Greece who lives and works in NRW. The Dabke dance style will be taught by Dabke-Night from the Netherlands.
