Cammerspiele Leipzig: Schön war's, aber nicht nochmal Urlaub mit den Eltern von André Herrmann
In the organizer's words:
Vacation with my parents. We’re sitting at the airport five (!) hours before our flight, and my mom is freaking out because she printed the boarding passes on A3 paper and thinks that’s why we won’t be allowed to board.
That’s how stand-up comedian and author André Herrmann began documenting his trip with his parents—a video that went viral in no time. Under the hashtag #UmdE, he spent 8 days chronicling the trials and tribulations of their trip together, quickly garnering a huge following—so much so that by the end, over 1 million people were reading his posts online every day.
This year’s summer theater production at the Cammerspiele Leipzig takes the Herrmann family on vacation. With plenty of humor and a keen sense for quirky situations, the show tells the story of the three travelers. The son, who actually didn’t want to go on vacation with his parents, senses along the way that something has shifted. As a self-appointed tour guide, he takes responsibility for his parents—who sometimes seem helpless—and repeatedly guides them through all sorts of tricky situations. Whereas his parents used to take care of him, he is now the one looking after them as if they were his “little rascals.” Maybe this trip together wasn’t such a bad idea after all?
All performances in Leipzig are already completely sold out, but thanks to this exclusive special guest performance, Berlin will now also have the chance to enjoy André Herrmann’s “Vacation with the Parents” —for the very last time and as a one-time-only event!
