CARA ROSE (GLASGOW, SCOTLAND)
'Glasgow riser Cara Rose is causing colossal excitement in her home city. - CLASH
Cara Rose is a 25-year-old singer-songwriter from Glasgow, Scotland. Cara explores what it means to be a young woman going through life in such uncertain times. Her soulful musings have won her fans of all ages as she has honed her craft at venues across Glasgow. Cara's direct, passionate and insightful lyrics are unmistakably Glaswegian, covering topics such as love, life and her place in the world.
Debut single 'Learn to Speak', a tale of rebellion and determination, cemented the growing buzz for one of the country's most brilliant young talents. She received editorial support from Spotify and reached over 2.5 million streams, gaining fans in her native Scotland, Europe and North America. In early 2020, Cara entered the studio with respected producer Matt Ingram (Lianne La Havas, Laura Marling) to finalize her debut EP 'Urges', which was released in October 2020 to great acclaim.
After spending time with her family in a small coastal town in the west of Scotland, Cara began writing her most expressive and introspective work to date, culminating in a new EP of delicate piano ballads that exude a talent well beyond her years. 'How It Feels' (released in November 2021) shows the young songwriter at her most vulnerable lyrically and readily leans into her jazz influence that shaped much of her childhood. In 2022, the young songwriter supported fellow Scot Emeli Sande at Oran mor in Glasgow, which led to two sold-out headline shows at The Blue Arrow in Glasgow.
With the new single "Lovin" (released on October 11), Cara continues on her chosen path, with emotive lyrics about her love for her mother, who is a rock in her personal and creative life and whose support is essential to the young woman Cara has become. Following the release of the follow-up single, the neo-soul 'Romanticizing', Cara played her biggest concert to date, selling out the 600-capacity Saint Luke's in Glasgow.
Cara will play her first headline show outside of Scotland at London's St. Pancras Old Church on November 24th, as well as performing in her hometown of Glasgow at the beautiful Cottiers on December 9th.
Musically gifted from a young age, Cara developed her love of soul music, whose sound alludes to artists such as Amy Winehouse, Nina Simone, Lauryn Hill, Joan Armatrading and John Martyn.
Cara has performed extensively in her native Scotland, including at TRNSMT (two years running), Tenement Trail, Celtic Connections and Eden Festival, and has supported artists such as Emeli Sande, Cory Wong and Nitin Sawhney. With no music to release, Cara sold out her two 2019 Glasgow headline shows at the Blue Arrow Jazz Club (180 capacity) and The Savings Bank (250 capacity). She supported Glasgow riser Joesef at his back-to-back sold-out King Tut's headline shows as well as his 1300 capacity SWG3 show in December 2019.
