O Fortuna, you are changeable like the moon. This is howCarl Orff begins and ends his most famous work, reflecting on changing fortunes and the inevitable cycle of human destiny. Carmina Burana, an anthology of medieval songs, celebrates the beauty of spring, pays homage to life and praises the power of love. With his music to these texts, Orff provides the basis for a sensual Gesamtkunstwerk and deliberately places the scenic design in the hands of the director and choreographer.
