In its programmatic composition, the concert refers to the temporal proximity to the commemoration of the Day of Liberation (May 8) and the fragile present. The musical spectrum ranges from Haydn's great Missa in angustiis - the "Mass in Distress" (also known as the Nelson Mass) - to Arvo Pärt's contemplative "Fratres" and Mauricio Kagel's bitterly ironic work "Ten Marches to Miss Victory". This panorama is complemented by the world premiere of Five Audio Images by composer Cathy Milliken, whose sonic sensitivity condenses the human need for peace and salvation. The concert evening reflects the tensions of a world that is once again strongly characterized by military logic - and searches for sources of hope.
