World premiere of a song cycle for mixed choir and piano based on texts by
Friedrich Karl Barth with the Young Choir St. Antonius and the Colored Voices
This year, Junger Chor St. Antonius and Colored Voices (gospel choir of the Ev.
Oberkassel) invite you to their traditional summer concerts.
For over ten years, both choirs have been cultivating one of the rare ecumenical choral encounters in
joint ecumenical Evensongs in both churches.
The two choirmasters Felicia Friedrich and Markus Hinz are the driving forces behind this tradition.
the idea was born to plan a joint concert program in 2025. In the search for a
idea, the plan matured to compose and premiere a new song cycle for choir.
premiere it. Both choirmasters also appear as composers in the field of new sacred music.
sacred music. For example, Markus Hinz has composed songs for the Catholic
for children's musicals for the Catholic Cantors' Convention in Düsseldorf, and the concerts of the
Colored Voices concerts regularly feature new compositions and arrangements by their choir director
Felcia Friedrich.
The common denominator for the song cycle was to be texts by the songwriter Friedrich
Karl Barth, who played a key role in shaping the New Spiritual Song Movement in Germany in the 1970s to 1990s.
Germany between the 1970s and 1990s. Many of the lyrics of such well-known songs
such as "Unser Leben sei ein Fest" (by the composer Peter Janssens, with whom he had a long
long friendship) were penned by him.
The concert program is complemented by highlights from the now extensive joint Evensong repertoire.
