ClubJazz: Martin Lejeune 3

In the organizer's words:

The formation Martin Lejeune 3 is a dynamic and well-rehearsed jazz trio characterized by a mixture of psychedelic sounds, traditional swing and complex harmonic and rhythmic structures. The band works with their own original compositions as well as carefully selected jazz standards, which they interpret in a fresh and often experimental context. The musicians attach great importance to improvisation, whereby the trio also plays with unorthodox, experimental sounds and irregular time signatures. This mixture makes the band exciting for lovers of classical jazz traditions as well as for fans of modern, avant-garde trends.
Martin Lejeune has long been closely associated with the Frankfurt/Rhine-Main jazz scene. After studying jazz guitar at the Amsterdam University of the Arts, he came to Frankfurt in 1994. Here he works as a freelance guitarist, composer and arranger, and also teaches at the Mainz University of Music and the Peter Cornelius Conservatory. He has composed for film, dance and radio plays (Hessischer Rundfunk and Bayerischer Rundfunk). He works primarily for the stage: Wuppertaler Bühnen, Theater Freiburg, Kosmos Theater Wien, Theater Basel, Theaterhaus Frankfurt, Ensemble 9. November, Die Fliegende Volksbühne, Stalburg-Theater Frankfurt, Die Volksbühne and for the Theater Willy Praml.
He has already received the Jazz Scholarship of the City of Frankfurt am Main twice. After 2003, he received it for the second time in 2025, then for a project artistically dedicated to the work and legacy of Albert Mangelsdorff. The Cultural Office and the Institute for City History made parts of the Mangelsdorff estate (sheet music, notes and audio recordings) available for this purpose. Lejeune is reinterpreting parts of Mangelsdorff's oeuvre and will present the result as part of "Jazz im Palmengarten" on August 20, 2026. In this concert, he will provide a first insight and combine this with the trio's regular repertoire.
