Documentary film
August 1971: Mexico City is the venue for a huge soccer spectacle in which teams from England, Argentina, Mexico, France, Denmark and Italy meet. More than 100,000 fans transform the historic Azteca Stadium into a place of excitement game after game, with television coverage throughout. The atmosphere is reminiscent of the greatest moments in international soccer history. But this tournament is unlike anything that has gone before, because there are only women on the pitch. It is the Copa '71, the first unofficial women's soccer World Cup. Rejected by FIFA and the national soccer associations, this historic event was pushed out of the annals of soccer. But now a documentary film recalls this tournament, which took place more than ten years before the first official Women's World Cup, and finally puts the players of the time, the charismatic pioneers of their sport, in the spotlight.
