Cosima zu Knyphausen: Maestra

To mark the opening of the new space in the Mercator-Höfe on Potsdamer Straße, Galerie Thomas Schulte is presenting a solo exhibition of recent paintings and drawings by Cosima zu Knyphausen. In a variety of techniques, formats and drawings, Knyphausen draws on a wide range of sources: from art history and literature to pop culture and the everyday, the personal and the self-referential. The works collected here under the title Maestra trace fragmentary paths of learning and discovering different areas of education and desire. This opens up a multi-layered reflection: on historical representations of women, as artists and in art; and on the vocation of women artists, their current models and canons, viewed through the lens of their own artistic training and practice.
