Court Fantasies

In the organizer's words:
What are the alternatives to the existing systems of asylum? How can we challenge the division of people into "deserving" and "not deserving"? Which roads will we take to achieve freedom of movement around the world for everyone equally? What does it feel like to live in this new world? Where would you imagine yourself in it? In "Court Fantasies", Salma and Miriam approach issues surrounding asylum with a critical mind and ear. They use imagination as a tool to shake rigid, seemingly unchangeable legal systems. They attempt to bridge between art and law, while following the fantastical work of activists that are already changing the future. Salma and Miriam are hosting an evening of communal hearing and remembering. They move through space and time in alternating roles, accompanied by the sound body of musician Aram Abbas. Together with their team, they are inviting the audience to a collective listening to future archives: Here we are, in 2099, and still, every person on Earth enjoys the right to freedom of movement. Tonight, an assembly takes place, in order to recall how we achieved this freedom and commemorate what we lost on the way. We want to thank you for the continuous energy in the last decades, and that we all were able to trust in these brave dreams. As we are now facing new threats, we gather to witness encounters, interviews, and hearings that help us to combine our forces for the coming resistance. We will be expecting you with love for archives and passion for the fight - Yours, Salma and Miriam Salma Said and Miriam Coretta Schulte are partners in crime, friendship and performance. Since 2018, the duo has developed an artistic practice in which the situative knowledge regarding their different backgrounds and contexts and their love for experimentation are paired with activism and imagination. Their first piece together "behind your eyeballs" was shown in 2023 as part of the "Introducing..." series at the Berlin Performing Arts Festival at Ballhaus Ost. For this event, you can freely choose your ticket category - all seats are equal. If you choose a Supporter Ticket, you help keep the project accessible for everyone. _________________________________________________ What alternatives are there to the existing asylum system? How can we challenge the categorization of people into "deserves visa" and "does not deserve visa"? What paths will we take to achieve global freedom of movement for the world's population? What does it feel like to live in this new world? In Court Fantasies, Salma and Miriam take a critical approach to asylum-related topics. With the help of visions of the future, performers Salma Said and Miriam Coretta Schulte shake up rigid, supposedly unchangeable legal systems. They build a bridge between art and law and the work of activists who are already creating a new future today and invite the audience to take a look at future archives: it is 2099 and freedom of movement, the global right to freedom of movement for all, prevails worldwide. After years of effort, we have left behind the gigantic fiction that once divided people into the categories "deserving of a visa" and "not deserving of a visa". Just like those pieces of paper that determined our value and our movement back then. But what if this very freedom is threatened? Tonight we gather to understand the current uncertainties. We want to remember what we have lost and what we have gained. Together, we will witness encounters, interviews and hearings that show us what lies behind us - and how the activists of yesteryear did incredible work to create the future. We await you with love for the archives and passion for the struggle, your Salma and Miriam. Salma Said and Miriam Coretta Schulte are partners in crime, friendship and performance. Since 2018, the duo has been developing an artistic practice that combines situational knowledge of their different backgrounds and contexts, the desire to experiment with activism and imagination. Their first joint work "behind your eyeballs" was shown in 2023 as part of "Introducing..." at the Berlin Performing Arts Festival at Ballhaus Ost. You can choose your price category for this event. Choose the ticket category that suits you best - all seats are the same. If you buy a supporter ticket, you help to make the project accessible to everyone.
