An unrestrainedly passionate film in flickering neon light that searches for the last remnants of humanity in a world of big tech companies, deep brain stimulation and artificial intelligence.
The future is here and promises a brave new world: foreign languages can be learned in a matter of seconds, specialist knowledge can be easily uploaded and virtual intoxication experiences open up new horizons. This is made possible by connections on the head that allow human brains to connect directly with computers and even other brains. An anarchist hacker troupe is trying it all out with relish - only the critical Mona (Naemi Florez) is strictly opposed to the new technology. But when her boyfriend Milo (Jannik Schümann) falls into a neurotechnical coma, only Mona has the courage to expose herself to brainbugs or mental malware. Because to save Milo, she has to travel into his head herself.
What price are we prepared to pay for the future? And when humans and technology become one - who will be in control? In "Cyberpunk Romance", director Joscha Douma tells the story of a technologized loss of control, the first signs of which are already manifesting themselves in our world today.
