DAS FAST NORMALE LEBEN observes the everyday lives of four girls in a residential group for children and young people at the Evangelische Jugendhilfe Friedenshort. Separated from their parents, they struggle for recognition, self-love, self-determination and security. Always with the fervent wish to return home at some point.

Over a period of two years, we follow their development through highs and lows, feel their anger and willpower, and see them interact with caregivers, teachers, parents and institutions. The film tells of the courage and resilience of young people trying to find their own way in the midst of difficult circumstances. Without apportioning blame, the film offers an authentic insight into everyday life in youth welfare - where not everything always runs smoothly, but where security and successful adult-child relationships can develop.

In the end, the girls' wish for a "normal life" remains, in which they can use their potential for themselves.
