Queer Migra Pride - Queerness and empowerment in the migration society

In the new season, the "Haymatministerium" will continue to discuss what defines us as a diverse society and hear voices that challenge majority opinions. We kick things off in October with an issue on queerness: queer and migrant perspectives are often treated separately in social debates or even portrayed as opposing. Migrant queer people are confronted with prejudices and stigmatization from several directions at once: from the majority society and often also from migrant communities. Even in queer spaces, migrants are often subjected to discrimination and made invisible, although the opposite is the case: queer migrants and BiPOCs, refugees, diasporic communities - they were and are central actors or scenes of queer struggles for social justice and queer art. For example, in drag as a resistant art form with roots in Black and Latinx ballroom culture or in queer theory, which generally attempts to think more fluidly about attributions. In "Haymatministerium", we talk to artists and activists who work at precisely these intersections. What is the situation in our communities, in institutions, in society? How do we "queer" unifying discourses and spaces? Our guests will not only talk about their own practice, but also help shape the evening: You can look forward to a musical interlude by drag queen Sara Jevo and her little brother King Miloš! With Adalet Müzeyyen The political it girl Adalet Müzeyyen makes herself loud both on stage and off. In her art, she processes experiences from the past and the everyday life of a Kurdish/Alevi trans woman of color. She has performed on various platforms and addressed topics such as the assimilation of Kurdish-Alevi people, sexism and the intersectionality of queer hostility and racism. Milo Čortanovački is a director with Serbian roots who works on performances and directorial works with a queer-feminist focus. From the 2022/23 to 2023/24 season, she staged "Orlando" by Virginia Woolf at the National Theater. With the play "Miss Sara Jevo", Milo embarks on a personal documentary journey into the world of the queer Balkans with actor Sandro Šutalo and brings it to the stage of the NTM as a drag show. Sandro Šutalo, born in Sarajevo in 1988, studied acting at the HfMT Hannover. Engagements have taken him to Bremen, Rostock, Osnabrück, Münster, Memmingen and Kassel. Šutalo has been a permanent ensemble member at the Nationaltheater Mannheim since 2023. With his alter ego, the drag queen Miss Sara Jevo, he embarks on a search for themes such as flight, identity and cultural affiliation. Through "The Art of Drag", he recaptures a part of his Balkan history. Ozi Ozar is a Berlin-based trans non-binary artist born in Tehran. Ozi studied theater and film directing in Tehran and dramaturgy in FFM. Ozi's artistic practice combines comedy, interactive theater and the translation of social media formats into theater - and vice versa. Ozi has collaborated with various festivals and initiatives, including Berliner Theatertreffen, Missy Magazine, HAU, Mousonturm, HELLERAU, Bündnis internationaler Produktionshäuser, Initiative für Solidarität am Theater, Theater Dortmund, Woman* Life Freedom Collective, Leave No One Behind, Performing Exiles and Münchner Kammerspiele. Ozi has been part of the Ballhaus Ost program team since 2024. Moderation: Dr. Sevda Can Arslan is a media and communication scientist and moderator. She teaches and researches from a power-critical perspective on topics such as police violence and the media at the University of Paderborn and is active in the May 2nd Initiative.
