After 15 years, Leon from Frankfurt reluctantly returns to his native Albania to fulfill his deceased grandfather's last wish: to scatter his ashes in the sea. What begins as a simple task turns into a deep confrontation with his past and the family he once wanted to leave behind. Despite his initial hesitation, he embarks on a road trip across Albania, which leads him to fascinating places and people. On this journey, Leon not only rediscovers his homeland, but also himself. In the end, he discovers a long-hidden family secret that changes everything.

The poetic road movie The Sea is the Sky reflects questions of departure, hope and humanity in times of global migration. The estranged protagonist undergoes a profound transformation on his journey from chilly Germany to warm Albania. German-Albanian director Enkelejd Lluca combines personal experiences with historical moments in his second feature film, influenced by great masters such as Fellini and Tornatore.
