Opera by Leoš Janáček
In German language
"The Cunning Little Vixen" is the story of a clever, independent and freedom-loving vixen who takes what she needs. She even manages to free herself from captivity and start a family - but in the end, she falls victim to humans while fulfilling her maternal duties. But it is also the story of three elderly men who struggle with their biographies, regret lost opportunities and cling to old habits and indulge in sentimental memories despite the noticeable loss of time and dwindling strength. And it is the story of the old struggle of civilization and all its conventions against nature. The longing for freedom that is denied to oneself and instead curtails the freedom of others, even taking their lives. Jealousy and anger towards those who live far from convention. Nature looks on calmly and moves in a cycle of constant growth and decay, at least in the 1920s, when the opera was written.
