The caravan moves on. But where to—that is the question. It’s truly astonishing how quickly one is supposed to feel left behind, simply because it’s now unclear who’s actually losing their mind faster: the world or humanity?

But HG. Butzko won’t let himself be sidelined or fobbed off with a pittance. So no thoughts of retirement or resignation—instead, out of the echo chambers and filter bubbles and into the raw reality without a safety net or a safety cushion. “We’ll see about that”—that’s cabaret, satire, and plain talk—with human intelligence instead of artificial intelligence.

You no longer order food from the waiter, but at a terminal. Partnerships are no longer formed, but swiped away. The car drives the driver, not the other way around. Fake and fact strike a shady pact. And in the end, fools and charlatans rule the roost in every corner of the world.

And just when you’ve reached the age where you could tell your kids stories, you realize they’d rather chat on their cell phones. Until they themselves reach that age and then realize you can’t eat an app.

HG. Butzko

was born in 1965, grew up in Schalke, and went straight into a career as an actor, director, and cabaret artist. He’s been on stage since 1987 and has been touring with his own solo shows since 1997. He’s appeared frequently on television and on the radio, writes books and columns, and has won various cabaret and variety awards.

In his shows, he blends the political with the personal, everyday life with the Bundestag, the big wide world with the small mind. In doing so, he has developed a style all his own, which the press aptly describes as “buddy cabaret” and “barroom chat with the audience.” He likes to call himself the “pace-setter of German cabaret.”
