David Murray Quartet

Since his arrival in New York in 1975, David Murray has established himself as one of jazz's preeminent saxophonists and bandleaders. His approach to improvisation is unmistakable: even in his freest flights he reveres the American musical tradition. He combines influences from which he has grown: gospel, jazz, free/avant-garde jazz, rhythm'n'blues. His connection to great American writers also inspires his playing. David Murray's new quartet launched in January 2023 with a sold-out week-long series at the Village Vanguard in New York. Critics agreed afterwards that he is at the peak of his powers! The combination of his mastery along with the involvement of this powerhouse elite of the New York jazz scene is a force to be experienced. The ferocity of Marta Sanchez on piano, the poetry and dexterity of Luke Stewart on bass and the driving pulse of Russell Carter on drums are a perfect match for the leading saxophonist of his era. Murray says: "There is no better feeling than revealing a band of youthful creative musicians who aspire to be the cream that rises to the top!"
