A play between birth, life and death. In the beginning there was chance and the absolute impossibility of our coming together. And yet here and now we are together, in the constant in-between. And the world as we knew it is falling apart. But did we know it at all? In his German debut, Belgian director Benjamin Abel Meirhaeghe explores destruction as the cause of human becoming and, suddenly slipping in and out of life, becoming and having become.DEATH DRIVE turns against so-called life and certain death in performatively constructed images based on Hieronymus Bosch's Garden of Earthly Delights, freely inspired by Sabina Spielrein and Elias Canetti, among others. Eight seasons and transforming landscapes unfold on Bart Van Merode and Zaza Dupont's stage, quietly intertwining in all their explosive radicality and seeking to escape the recurring cycles of existence.
