denXte: Die Gedanken sind frei, die Rede auch?

Freedom of opinion is a fundamental right and as such is enshrined in the German Basic Law. But what does freedom of opinion encompass from a philosophical perspective? What is an opinion and what does it mean for it to be free? Do we all have a right to our own opinion, and to what extent are our thoughts and speech free? Discuss freedom of speech with denXte and Prof. Julia Zakkou (Heinrich Heine University)!

denXte is an interactive philosophical lecture series in which renowned philosophers present socially topical and scientifically relevant issues in the form of thought experiments. At a typical denXte evening, everyone's opinions are in demand: after a short thematic introduction by the philosophers, the audience is invited to explore their own intuition on the topic and - by voting with their smartphone and in a subsequent open discussion - to let it flow in.

Julia Zakkou is Professor of Theoretical Philosophy at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf. She was previously a junior professor at Bielefeld University and a research assistant in Berlin and Hamburg. Her research focuses on the philosophy of language and epistemology.
