The family man Edmund de Waal inherits a small, artistically carved figure from Japan: a hare with amber eyes. This seemingly inconspicuous object becomes the starting point for an adventurous, stirring and touching search for clues through 150 years of family and world history: together with Edmund, the audience embarks on a journey into the past, from Odessa via Paris to Vienna: his ancestors' family business rises to become one of the richest financial empires in Europe - until the family dramatically loses everything during the National Socialist era. Persecution and expropriation force them to flee, and the family is scattered all over the world.

Following the acclaimed, moving and award-winning world premiere at the Landestheater Linz, this musical is now receiving its German premiere at the Musikalische Komödie. Composer Thomas Zaufke takes his cue from the respective eras and draws on a wealth of material: traditional Jewish music, patriotic hymns, Charleston, a march parody - framed by inspiring modern soundscapes.
