Peter Jackson's second Tolkien adaptation: the companions are split into three groups after Boromir's death and Gandalf's fall: ring-bearer Frodo and hobbit friend Sam meet the schizophrenic creature Gollum, Merry and Pippin free themselves from Uruk-hais and Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas support the people of Rohan, who are awaiting the onslaught of Saruman's devil army.
