IL PORTIERE DI NOTTE - THE NIGHT PORTER is the seemingly impossible love story between Holocaust survivor Lucia (Charlotte Rampling) and the Nazi officer Max (Dirk Bogarde), who once tortured her in the camp. Lucia recognizes her tormentor many years later in Vienna. Max works unrecognized as a night porter in a Viennese hotel. Against all reason, she begins a sadomasochistic relationship with him, which opens up abysses from which there seems to be no escape.
