Set in 1976, the story follows British teacher Tom Michell (Steve Coogan) as he takes up a new job in Argentina. While the country is undergoing political upheaval, he comes across an orphaned penguin on a walk along the beach and decides to rescue it. The penguin, which he names Juan Salvador, quickly becomes a loyal companion and changes Tom's life in unexpected ways. Although pets are strictly forbidden at his school, the penguin is able to win not only Tom's heart, but also that of the students and staff. Through his extraordinary friendship with the penguin, Tom not only learns about life in a foreign culture, but also a lot about himself and his ability to help others.less
