In the organizer's words:
The writer and Africanist EDSON INCOPTÉ is on a reading tour in Germany in June. In Hamburg, he will be presenting his short story collection Der Pitangabaum der Nachbarin at the WillKommensKulturhaus / Ottensen on June 18.
The anthology Der Pitangabaum der Nachbarin (2025 Berlin, Noack & Block) provides impressive insights into the country of Guinea-Bissau and its literature. Five award-winning authors - Waldír Araújo, Amadú Dafé, Edson Incopté, Claudiany Pereira and Marinho de Pina - exemplify the literary diversity of this multi-ethnic West African country. Their stories revolve around family histories, dreams and disappointed life plans, tradition and uprootedness, injustice and struggles for freedom.
Edson Incopté (born 1987 in Bissau) is secretary of the PEN Center Guinea-Bissau and the Bissau-Guinean Writers' Association (AEGUI). He also coordinates the Academia Ubuntu Guinea-Bissau. He has already received several awards for his literary work. He will be accompanied on the reading tour by the translators Renate Heß (Berlin) and Rosa Rodrigues (Heidelberg). Both are active in the ACG.
The event is organized by the Amílcar Cabral Gesellschaft e.V. (ACG).
