THE FOREST FOR THE TREES

Before "Toni Erdmann" there was "Melanie Pröschle": scatterbrained Melanie starts her first job at a secondary school in Karlsruhe. Her class quickly dances around her nose and she is ghosted by her friend Tina, the owner of a boutique. Maren Ade creates a spiral of increasing despair that is both hilarious and uncomfortably touching. An intelligent, realistic crammer's movie with a heart for the lonely.
The film was nominated for numerous awards. Among others for the German Film Award 2005 in the category "Best Feature Film". Eva Löbau was awarded "Best Leading Actress" at the "Buenos Aires International Festival of Independent Cinema". A few years later, Maren Ade shot the internationally award-winning "Toni Erdmann" in the same documentary style.
