Hannes (Sebastian Bezzel) actually has everything one needs to be happy: a
loving family, a house in the countryside, and a solid career as a writer. The
best-selling years may be over, but Hannes takes it all in stride—he’s
simply enjoys being a husband and father. Only his family sees things differently: To his wife Sara (Anna
Schudt) and his children, Carla (Kya-Celina Barucki) and Nick (Philip Müller), he’s
overzealous care and late-boomer wisdom. And then it all hits at once: the publisher discontinues his novel series, Nick’s prospects for graduating from high school
looks bleak, and Carla decides to move out of the house. When his wife Sara
finally wants a break from the marriage and moves into a shared apartment with their daughter Carla, Hannes’
comfortable little world is turned upside down for good. He gives up—until he meets Vanessa (Judith Bohle). Will
be her, of all people, who finally manages to kick Hannes out of his comfort zone?
