Hardboiled

A gangster story from and with motifs from film noir in spoken and sign language

This gangster story is about two underdogs who break all the rules in order to find each other. The theater project plays with film clips from the "film noir" genre and combines them with the harsh present.

The American film style "film noir" was a reaction to the social and political upheavals after the Second World War, when social structures and gender roles were in a state of flux. During the war, women who had stayed at home took over the jobs of the absent men in order to support themselves and their families. This gave rise to a new female independence that the traumatized men who had returned found difficult to deal with. This deconstruction of the family and the new female roles are reflected in the characters of "Film Noir".
