THE EVENTS

Claire Fletcher, a chaplain in a small town, witnesses and is the victim of an incomprehensible act. A young man has killed several choir members in a rampage during a rehearsal of the community choir she directs. It was the deliberate intention of the perpetrator to attack people of a group that was founded to provide a place of community for the socially disadvantaged, asylum seekers and immigrants. Since then, nothing is as it was, and a return to normality seems impossible. Tolerance, openness and solidarity, the foundations of Claire's community work, are deeply shaken in the face of this radical act of violence. Her attempts to fathom the question of "why" increasingly shape her private life as well as her work with the choir. By any means necessary, she seeks a way to understand, so that she can muster the strength and hope to continue connecting society to her efforts, rather than dividing it.

In each performance, the characters perform with a different, Munich choir. Thus, the theater encounters a different part of social reality each time. This juxtaposition creates a situation that allows for a common coming to terms in a new, very concrete community each time. Actors, choir and audience face together and in the moment of performance the questions Greig raises in his play.
