The KGI theater collective transforms the Petrikirche Mülheim into a place of critical examination of the historical roots of anti-Semitism in a Christian context.
"The Golgota Variations" is a site-specific performance that not only uses the church space as a backdrop, but also turns it into an active carrier of meaning. In a unique combination of personal experiences with Christianity and an analytical examination of the Gospels as an "anti-Semitic founding manifesto", this is a multi-layered evening of theater that interweaves historical research with family history.
The special feature of this production lies in its immediacy: in a place where Christian liturgy was practiced for centuries, the ensemble confronts the uncomfortable questions about the role of Christian traditions in the emergence and consolidation of anti-Semitic thought patterns. The performance venue itself thus becomes a resonance chamber for this important social debate.
In collaboration with the Protestant community of Mülheim and the Ringlokschuppen Mülheim, KGI creates a space for reflection and dialog. The performance invites the audience to engage with the continuing structures of anti-Semitism in the modern age and to critically question traditional narratives.
The KGI theater collective is known for its innovative combination of technological elements with in-depth historical research. In this production, too, personal and social narratives merge into an artistic exploration that has an impact far beyond the theater evening.
