It is 1923 when Franz Kafka and Dora Diamant meet by chance on the Baltic coast. The two couldn't seem more different: He the man of letters who spends a lot of time in his thoughts, she a down-to-earth dancer. But the apparent differences do not prevent the two from embarking on their love affair. However, their young happiness is soon given a best-before date, as Kafka's health is very poor. They only have one year together before Kafka's body gives up, he dies and leaves Dora behind.

The drama about Kafka and his last love is not a biopic and deals only peripherally with his works. Instead, the film skillfully strikes a balance between melodrama and romantic comedy, with Sabin Tambrea and Henriette Konfurius making up the ideal cast. They are convincing as lovers who find each other in the face of death and stay together - until the bitter end.
