Widely received in literature, film and music, Salem is a synonym for "witchcraft" like almost no other place. The main questions of the lecture are what factors are responsible for Salem still being associated with witchcraft today and to what extent historical events, more recent artistic receptions, but also modern marketing strategies play a part in this.

MADELEINE APITZSCH, Germanist and historian. Her research focuses on early modern witch hunts, historical crime research, urban history research and the history of reception.
