John Neumeier created one of his most famous action ballets in 1978, based on Alexandre Dumas' novel. It depicts the story of Armand, a man from the best society, who falls in love with the coveted courtesan Marguerite. Despite the love she also feels for him, she is torn between her life of luxury and her true feelings - especially since she is terminally ill. The music is by Frédéric Chopin.
