Japan, 1945. The country is on the verge of surrender; famine and bombing raids are claiming many lives among the population. Two orphans, 14-year-old Seita and his little sister Setsuko, are desperately trying to survive in this world—an impossible task. Coming from the same studio as “Princess Mononoke,” this film impresses with its unflinching portrayal of the suffering and hopelessness of war. 

Isao Takahata’s deeply moving anti-war film *Grave of the Fireflies* has been highly praised by critics at screenings around the world and is considered a masterpiece of the Studio Ghibli film studio.
