11 songs in DLDGG major and a drama in 212 minutes

With "Gschichterln aus dem Park Café" the League of Ordinary Gentlemen succeeds in presenting THE Corona album of the year ... Hello? Still here? Don't fall asleep, it was just a bad heart! Let others try their hand at it, the 5 Ordinary Gentlemen prefer to indulge in hedonistic decadence. The "working" title of the present collection of pop songs was "11 Songs in DLDGG-Major", the plan was to make a record with exclusively positive (in the sense of "pleasant") themes, a really nice, optimistic balla-balla record. But "Rebekka wants her bike back" had to be on it. Very good song, but the 212-minute kitchen sink drama threw the beautiful concept over the pile.

So now "Gschichterln aus dem Park Café". The Park Café in Altona, right next to the dog playground, according to soul connoisseur Jan Drews, friend of the house, the most beautiful place in Hamburg. Or was it even the most beautiful place in the world? We took a seat on Massonet's Monobloc and squinted into the sun through the dense foliage, one paw on the Coke, the other on the honey pot of life. That's where you get ideas, even song ideas. And so, dear congregation, "Gschichterln aus dem Park Café"!

Five ordinary midnight racers

After Zwanie Jonson's studio in Lerchenstraße was torn down and the Ordinary lost their clubhouse, so to speak, the Park Café was chosen as the new meeting place. Speaking of Zwanie ... it was time to write a song about the dear friend, et voila: "Yo Zwanie!" 5 ordinary midnight racers with a new soul vision about their former drummer straight out of Park Café. Nobody else does it, nobody else can do it, it's worth the money alone! And herewith the hit-round is solemnly opened.

Beautiful hair - Old clothes - Ice cream as main course

Problems? Maybe tomorrow, certainly even, but not today, my friend! Today we radio, "Houston, we have no problem!"And yet, it's not all sunshine. There's a saying that goes, "What good is hair if the barber is an idiot?" And so we dream our way through the foliage and see ourselves in the Balearics with beautiful hair at memoirs. But not half-long etch hair like this etch philosopher from TV. The league sings of so really beautiful, of so really good hair. The kind with a cut! Like Peter O'Toole had it, whether in "Lawrence", whether in "Pussycat", it doesn't matter, he looked great, whether on a camel or with a psychiatrist, there are no two opinions, the mouse doesn't bite off a thread. And the music first: If a Raffaello from Rocher was music, then the refined Praliné would sound like "Men with beautiful hair".

And we continue to dream our way through the dense foliage, dreaming of human dreams. Sounds crazy, sounds double, but that's how it is. Why not realize the age-old dream of mankind and make a 60s A&M sound ourselves? Our dream takes a seat on a sunbeam and travels to sunny California, to 1416 North LaBrea. The result, "It's nice to be nice!" If that's not a song in DLDGG major, fabulous! With a real vibraphone!!! Not everyone has one, no one else does, it's worth the money alone.

Now add the right shirt, one with big fat stripes and a collar roll to click your tongue. If you want it is not a dream! But where to get it, if not tailored? DLDGG-Pro- Tip: If you get that "today is my day" feeling shortly after waking up, visit your local Red Cross Kilo Shop, it's hanging there! Voiceover: "Isn't it a little unseemly to sing about shirts in the middle of a plague, as you tend to do in "Kilo Shop Mod"?" Response: "If things go badly, after Corona comes the Corona processing art tsunami on top. Company thanks. It'll be lame, you'll still wish for songs about socks. But remember: Used clothing alone does not make you a martyred artist. There must be something more to it. What is it? Well, for example, wearing silk pajamas and a turban, eating ice cream as a main course, having visions of Ernst Jandl and recording acid rock with a flute. Ah, as in the song "2020 - The erotic year"? Exactly like that!

Gentlemen & Troglodytes

Speaking of "ice cream": Let's get to the opus magnum of this opus magnum, the vacation suite consisting of "Ferien für immer", "Cheer Up (You're on vacations)" - a cover version, originally by the great Merricks - and En Route to St. Tropez. And because things are going so well, the ode to the slowdown strike "Come later, leave earlier" is also incorporated into the suite. The dawdle strike, the little vacation for in between.

The League of Ordinary Gentlemen ... are they troglodytes who sing with holy seriousness about shirts, ice cream and vacations? Are they completely out of time, with their DIY sound distilled from scratched old Madness, 60s pop, A&M, Northern Soul records? Or modern precisely for that reason? Don't they always create something of their own, something new, even something modern, precisely because of their stubbornness? Yes, yes and again yes! one would like to exclaim after listening to "G'schichterln". The League of Ordinary Gentlemen is the biggest little pop band in the world! But at least the biggest little pop band in West Hamburg.

It's always summer somewhere (single release date: July 7, 2023)
The good life or the absence of the same has occupied the five ordinary since day one of their "career". "Es ist immer Sommer irgendwo" thematizes the six-month-long autumn in Hamburg and the widely known, but nevertheless astonishing and somehow also comforting fact that when here the autumn swings its wet-cold scepter, elsewhere in the world is summer. One must also be able to indulge! Now we have summer here and a summer without a summer hit is no summer.
Of course Die Liga Der Gewöhnlichen Gentlemen are happy to help out and release their Indie/Northern Soul earworm "Es ist immer Sommer irgendwo" and not only digitally but also as a limited edition 7" single of 500 copies. A song about autumn as a summer hit? Crazy, but that's why the League is so popular, because it always knocks out such things and is so pleasantly different. The single was mixed by legendary London DJ Andy Lewis.
