THE MEDITERRANEAN MONOLOGUES tell the stories of Naomie from Cameroon and Yassin from Libya—both political dissidents—who find themselves on a boat bound for Europe, of brutal “coast guards” and dubious maritime rescue agencies, and of activists who are fighting to prevent deaths in the Mediterranean.

These activists use the “Alarmphone” to persuade coast guards to search for people in distress at sea, or learn on the Seawatch how to save people from drowning—in short, they do what should actually be the most obvious thing, yet in the year 2026 is anything but obvious: saving human lives!
